Despite a modesty of means and scale, Gustavo Pérez’s ceramics have achieved worldwide recognition. Small details are important to Pérez. He incises lines into the surface of clay, with no superfluous detail. More than containers or receptacles, his forms are supports for his calligraphic drawings. Each work remains a distinct invention, combining symmetry and intuitive sensitivity. Gustavo Pérez’s art suggests a wide range of influences, from modernist sculpture to the ancestral traditions of Asia and the Americas.
